“Our main task is to make sure that whatever the commercial team promises to customers actually gets done,” says Pieternel. “After the contracts are finalized, they come to our department and we’re responsible for ensuring that the goods are delivered to the customer with the correct documentation. This involves a lot of coordination with factories, customers and all intermediary parties, such as inspection companies, warehouses, shipping companies, and freight forwarders.”

This often varies depending on the country, adding another layer of complexity to the job. Every country has its own specific requirements, and we make sure everything is arranged with all involved parties before moving forward.”

Overcoming Challenges
“Logistics is full of challenges, often requiring quick thinking and constant communication with multiple parties,” Pieternel explains. “Sometimes we book a shipment for a departure next week, and then the vessel is delayed. This means we need to adjust plans and ensure everything stays on track. One delay affects everything down the line, but we always find solutions to keep things moving.”
“In the end, we do our best to ensure the client gets the product in the best, most reliable and most affordable way possible. We enjoy tackling these challenges every day.

“Everyone on our team has been here for a long time,” says Pieternel. “I’ve been working at Alpha Group for over 30 years myself. That means we have a lot of expertise and knowledge, which we use to support our partners, and also pass on to new colleagues. It’s important to have short lines of communication within the team and with other departments, such as the commercial team. This helps us respond quickly and tackle problems before they arise.”

“Our team also prides itself on its collaborative approach,” Pieternel notes. “ We all have our own specific areas of expertise, such as geographical areas and customers. This ensures that our customers are consistently assisted by the same specialist for each shipment.” Moreover, we always make sure we keep up to date with changing regulations. Despite our individual expertise, we always help each other out when needed. If someone’s sick or on holiday, we step in and make sure things keep moving.”
